Happy Birthday Drew

OK so I'm a week late with this one...
but it's taken me awhile to recover...

The night before my little man's birthday he spent the night at his dad's which kinda sucked... but also gave me time to get things decorated and make a million cupcakes for his school & baseball practice the following day.
Thursday October 21st was Drew's 7th birthday.... seven years sure flies by faster than I could have possibly imagined.  That morning I picked him up from his dad's and took him to school. My plan was to spend the whole day in class with him (a tradition we started in Kindergarten). But that morning I also woke up with the flu.... so we lasted till about lunch time and then I took Drew home. He was worried about me and wanted to take care of me, but I made him but his doctor skills aside for a minute so he could at least open his presents.

We had his actual party on Saturday.. after he had a baseball game that morning ( can you imagine having the flu while trying to prepare/host a birthday party and go to a baseball game??... SUCKS!! but I guess it comes with the job) Lucky for us, my mom came out to help us get everything ready for the party.

We played a few games, ate some lunch, and the kids ran around crazy in my grandparents awesome backyard. It was pretty cold outside, but at least it didn't rain.... till the party was over.

My mom made some popcorn balls for the guests and surprised Drew and I by also making this awesome field to display them on.

After presents and cake it started drizzling so we all called it a day. Drew had a great time with his friends and our wonderful family. Oh, and he wore his football pads & helmet for most of the day... this kid is all Dolphin. It was an exhausting day for me... but seeing that amazing smile and hearing his sweet little "Thanks Mom" was all I needed.

Happy Birthday my sweet baby boy....
I love you to the moon and back again.

Pumpkin Time

Yesterday we took a trip to a pumpkin patch out in Irvine. I looked it up online and saw that they had a hay maze, haunted house, pony rides, junk food and train rides and I was sold.

Now my plan was to spend a couple hours here pretty much letting Drew do whatever he wanted. We had all the time in the world and there was plenty to do... but Drew had other plans for us. All he wanted to do was pan for gold, pick his pumpkin and hit the road.

Oh, and stick his head in all the little photo thingys.

So I let him pan for gold... talked him into running going through the haunted house (which seriously scared the heck out of both of us.... so much for "kid friendly").. let him pick a pumpkin (even though we had bought 2 the day before at Wal-Mart)... walked through the hay maze, took a few pictures and we left.

It was a much shorter trip than I had planned on, but whatever makes my boy smile...

And that night we went to a pumpkin carving party at my cousins...

Drew has plans to carve at least 3 more pumpkins before the month is over... It's going to be a messy October!

Old Habits Die Hard

This morning as Drew's getting dressed, I asked if he wanted a long sleeved shirt instead of just a t-shirt since it was going to be cold today. He said no, he was fine with just bringing his sweatshirt.

The weather forecast (which is hardly ever accurate in So. Cal.) predicted clouds and rain today with a high of  70 degrees (which is FREEZING for me).

So I headed to my room to get myself ready.... and came out in my typical, completely predictable "winter weather" outfit for work (or any where for that matter)....

Jeans, hooded sweatshirt and.... sandals.

Yep, right now my freezing little toes are peaking out of my $2 flip flops from Old Navy.

I can't help it. I LOVE SANDALS... year round.. in any weather.. for any occasion.. with any attire.

My sandal addiction is so bad that people who know me will clearly question my sanity if they ever see me wearing anything but sandals.... even in the rain.

*The only exceptions to the rule are:
      1: Snow
      2. When I'm at home I'm in socks or slippers.

According to my mother, this is one reason I get sick so often in the winter.... however, since becoming a mother myself, I've decided that MINE is the only advice I have to listen to =)
