The Great Remodel of 2010 Continues.. in 2011

Back in April 2010, the remodel of my house began.

(work being done by my landlord (AKA- my grandpa) and my uncle who does the work in his spare time... if he has any)

I asked for wood floors in my living room and dining room.

What I got was an ENTIRE house remodel. Every single room, every single wall, floor and window.

While I appreciate all the nice new stuff.. and how great my house looks now... the problem is, it's still not done.

My room, the living room, dining room, hall and bathroom have been done. Only took a year to get those done....

But now they have officially moved on to the end (I HOPE) of the project.
Drew's room.... the kitchen and the laundry room. Oh, and last minute they decided to rip down the fence in my backyard and build a new one, and add a slab of concrete for the storage shed they think I need (ummm, yes, I do have a lot of crap Grandpa, thanks for noticing!)

This part of the project has actually gone along pretty quickly over the last two weeks... until this weekend. My uncle was there both Saturday and Sunday working on Drew's room. Walls have come down, flooring has been ripped out and drywall is everywhere.
And while my uncle was working away inside... my cousin was outside in my grandparent's backyard (just on the other side of my back yard) putting in ANOTHER bathroom. Yep, a bathroom in the backyard... (of my grandparents house, not mine.) This was all fine and dandy and didn't concern me one bit, until they mentioned that they were connecting it to MY plumbing (but they pay my water bill so what do I care?) Oh, and there was a problem with one of the pipes so they wanted to replace the whole line.... That runs under Drew's room and my kitchen.

We are SOOO lucky that they were working on both projects at once because my cousin had to come in with a freakin' jack-hammer and dig a huge hole through the width of Drew's room and right down the middle of my ENTIRE kitchen.
Horrible lighting, but that's the whole in the floor
of Drew's room looking in from my kitchen.

And I know you can't really see it here, but this
is my tiny kitchen with a massive hole in it.. and tarps
covering my countertops.

To say that it was a LOUD, filthy and eventful weekend is a huge understatement.

I am not looking forward to cleaning up after this mess. The plan is to finish Drew's room completely before working on the kitchen. So they will be putting down a temporary floor until they're ready... at which time I will need to empty my kitchen completely in order to clean all the DUST and debris that has worked its way into my cabinets and every dish I own.

Fun times!

It's Just About Ready...

It's been a PROJECT to say the least....
One month...
But totally worth it...

Just added the new furniture and new bed set....
And I love the way it came out.

Still need to get some curtains.. and an area rug..
then attempt to hang some pictures of the love of my life
up on these blank walls...

I am SOOO glad to finally be sleeping in my own room and bed again... that couch was not meant for Drew and I... heck we have a hard enough time both fitting on this Cal-King bed with the way he flips around in the middle of the night...

In other news...

I took a much needed trip to the beach ALONE a couple weeks ago...
I baked like a lobster.. OUCH..
but it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed every second.

We had a very busy end of the week last week, and it carried into the weekend.
Grandma was sent to the hospital Wednesday afternoon with con-genitive heart failure (but she's doing good now), so I was at the hospital Wednesday and Thursday..
My mom was in town to see Grandma and to work on a family yard sale that weekend.
Friday & Saturday were spent working at the yard sale, dealing with a migraine, and squeezing in a little league game.

So Sunday we just completely relaxed out by Grandma's pool...
it was nice and hot..
but that water was freezing cold!!

Catching Up

Just a few pictures to catch up on things... and a couple I forgot to post last week..

This is my nephew Justin on Mother's Day... totally candid and unplanned picture.. but it is so totally him..

And here's little Jacob Ryan, who seems to take after his older brother when it comes to the faces...

And Mommy's little Angel at Saturday's game...

The progress of the bedroom remodel.... slowly but surely.. the painting was finished this weekend.. and yesterday they started laying the wood flooring... hopefully this weekend they'll get to work on my closets..

And this is one of my new FAVORITE things..
Drew made this tile in his first grade class for Mother's Day.
When I opened it, he explained to me that he didn't know the teacher was going to put a picture right in the middle and that he planned to draw each of us. But I love it... for me, it represents us very well.. we may be two individuals, but together we are one....

This - That - and The Other

Nothing specific to post, so here goes some rambling...

Just realized we Drew only has 9 baseball games left. June 10th will be the last one... while baseball has been a whole new experience for us, some times draining and always fun, it's going to be a bittersweet ending.

And before baseball even ends, Drew will start pop warner football... TACKLE football... my itty bitty 36 lb. 6 year old will be playing tackle football. Practices start June 3rd and games begin in September. This kid is so anxious to start.... This Mom is TERRIFIED! He skinned his knee at baseball practice last night and he acted like the world was over and refused to continue practice because he was in too much pain... How in the world does he intend to survive and enjoy TACKLE football??
This is my "baseball daughter" Sabrina. Her older sister plays on Drew's team, and I keep an eye on her while her Dad helps out on the field.

As for the house remodel... Well from the slow pace of things, it's safe to say it's going to be a LONG summer.... it'll be two weeks tomorrow since the project started... and my room still looks like this:

Don't get me wrong.. I am SUPER thankful for the unrequested upgrades... and I understand that we're working around my uncle's actual job schedule... but Drew and I are getting a little tired of living completely in the living room. Since his bedroom became my new closet.. and there are boxes and drawers scattered all around the house, we're pretty much confined to the living room, the kitchen, and half of our dinning room table. Just hope the bathroom, living room, hall and dining room go a little quicker...

Drew has a little over 2 weeks left of school, and then he will officially be a 2nd grader.... not sure how I feel about that yet, but apparently it doesn't seem to matter and I don't get a vote on whether or not my baby keeps growing up....

Also, I have begun making plans for Drew's 7th birthday..... in October.. ok, so I know it's a tad early.. but that's me... over prepared for anything Drew-related. He wants a Miami Dolphins/Michael Jackson themed party.... this should be interesting.. I intend to have a plastic MJ as the ref on his football cake =)

I think that's about it for this week.....
Happy early Mother's Day to all you Mommies
